Lenten Family Egg-Stravaganza

Calling all gardeners, carpenters, jewelry makers, writers, artists, masons, families, and First Lutheran OWL’s (Older and Wiser Lutherans),

The Sunday School Ministry team is busy planning a special Lenten activity for all the families to enjoy on Sunday, March 28th from 9:00 to 10:30. This Palm Sunday event is call the “Lenten Family Egg-Stravaganza”. All families with children through sixth grade are going to walk along a path to the tomb to enjoy different activities together. Would you like to help the families of First Lutheran engage in their Lenten Journey? There is a sign up sheet outside the sanctuary. Below is a brief description of the volunteers and supplies that are need.  If you have any questions, please contact Kim Jones at 927.4751 or dandkjones@embarqmail.com.
  • Palm Journal – Assist the families write prayer request and/or things they are thankful for on paper palm leaves.
  • Nail Cross Ornament – Assist the older Sunday School children make a cross ornament with nails and wire.
  • Wooden Nail Cross – Assist the younger Sunday School children weave around a cross of nails on a piece of wood.
  • Prayer Pots – Assist the children in planting a flower and decorating a flower pot to be delivered to one of the nursing home or assisted living facilities in Aitkin. Might want to bring a pair of gardening gloves!!
  • Garden Stepping Stone – Assist the children in making a stepping stone out of concrete and misc. art décor. Can’t be afraid to get your fingers full of cement for this activity.
  • Tomb Narrative – At the end of the path, the children are going to be able to step inside the tomb to see that it is empty. Are you able to talk to the families about what happened? A suggested script will be provided and costumes are available.
  • “Jesus Loves Me” banner – Not afraid of a little finger paint? Assist the children in putting their handprints on the banner to be displayed in the sanctuary.

FAMILY OPPORTUNITY:  The prayer pots are going to be delivered to the nursing home and assisted living facilities on Palm Sunday after the Egg-stravaganza. This is a perfect family activity to kick off Holy Week. A list of residents will be provided and the facilities will be notified that First Lutheran will be coming to make the deliveries during the afternoon sometime. If this is something your family would enjoy doing together, please sign up outside the sanctuary or contact Kim Jones.

We hope you will join us on the path to the tomb.

Matthew 28: 5 -6 “The angel said to the women, “ Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”

Thank you for supporting the Children, Youth, and Family ministry at First Lutheran!
